Educational Review Series

First, I would like to thank Wynn for letting me ramble on here ;-) I think it will be an awesome experience. Second, I'd like to tell you what it is I hope to contribute. Third, I want to provide you with ways to help me.

My job is going to be to critique professor-created educational materials available for free in cyberspace. For example, my first post will be about the CyberOne: Law in the Court of Public Opinion materials created by Charlie Nesson, Becca Nesson, and Gene Koo at Harvard. The second post will be about Jean-Claude Bradley's UsefulChem materials at Drexel.

Now, I already know what you are thinking...how on earth is she going to review a bunch of subjects she doesn't know diddly about???

Well - never fear. I am not going to evaluate the course content; I am only going to look at the presentation of content. I will be using a 5 Star rating system that looks a bit like this (one star per item):

  1. Is the website easy to navigate? Will students be able to work independently?
  2. Is the content easy to access? Is the content organized? Do the links work? Can I hear the podcasts and/or see the video podcasts?
  3. Can a non-registered student or professor use the content without taking the course? Is the information made cryptic in any way?
  4. Is there enough content, and, if not, are there links to more information?
  5. Critic's Choice (this is where I get to be creative).
So...here is where you come in. PLEASE send me URL addresses of material you would like to see reviewed. Don't be shy; if you have your own site and want some free advertising, please submit your URL to me by emailing me at bethritterguth@gmail.com
